Before you worry

“Is that thing going to burn my stuff?”

It is the first question everybody asks, and it deserves a demonstration rather than a paragraph. In this video the laser lifts ink off a sheet of paper and leaves the paper unscorched.

Paper chars at roughly 230°C and has almost no thermal mass. If this process worked by heating the surface, there would be a hole. Your bronze, your beams and your adobe are vastly tougher than a sheet of paper.

How the pulse works

Why laser

Every other method takes something off that you can't put back.

Sandblasting erodes historic masonry by up to a millimetre per treatment and rounds off every detail it touches. Chemical strippers soak into porous stone and keep working after the crew leaves. Pressure washing puts water into a building that has already been soaked.

A pulsed laser works on a different principle entirely. Every material has an ablation threshold — the energy density at which it starts to vaporize. Soot, rust, paint and biological growth all have a far lower threshold than the bronze, stone or timber underneath them.

Tune the beam above one and below the other, and the contamination leaves as vapor while the original surface never knows you were there.

It is selective

The beam removes the layer you target and stops at the layer you don't. Patina, tool marks, foundry stamps, VIN numbers and saw marks all survive.

It is cold

Nanosecond pulses deposit energy faster than heat conducts into the substrate. Wood never reaches its ~200°C char point. Aircraft aluminium stays under 120°C.

It leaves nothing behind

No grit in the flower beds, no chemical runoff, no rinse water, no blast media to contain and dispose of. Residue is captured at the extractor.

You can watch it work

There is no dwell time and no guessing. The operator sees exactly what is coming off, in real time, and stops on the line you agree to.

The equipment

An aviation laser, pointed at a bronze.

The FP-300 was not built for restoration work. It was built to strip corrosion off aircraft — where a warped panel or an annealed spar is a flight-safety issue, and where the tolerance for damaging the substrate is exactly zero.

That is the whole reason it belongs on a sculpture. The precision an airframe demands is the same precision a 19th-century patina demands. Most laser cleaning outfits run continuous-wave industrial units built to move fast over steel. This is a pulsed system — slower, far more controllable, and the only kind that has any business near wood, stone or art.

We carry our own power

The whole rig travels — laser, control case, extraction and a generator. There does not need to be power at the site, which means a sculpture garden, a trailhead, a burned-out structure or a ranch gate are all workable.

Arizona's laser cleaning companies are all in Phoenix and Tucson, two hours south, and all of them are set up for industrial rust. We are in the Verde Valley, and the assessment is free inside it.
